BEST TIME TO VISIT

Due to its proximity to the sea, Kanyakumari enjoys a pleasant climate and can be visited throughout the year. However, the best season to visit this place would be between October and March.

How to Go to Kanyakumari ?

I went from Bangalore by a Train which runs daily. There are many other options to go there. So I hope this should not be a probelm. If you are going by train, then you can pick up a taxi or auto to go and find out hotels, which is hardly 2 km far.

Where to stay

The most deciding factor in choosing a hotel is that if you get a room, from where you can see the sun-rise, then it will be very good.Considering this factor, Hotel Seaview is the best and only international hotel, but you have to pay a good price for the comfort.Hotel Maadhini will be the second good option in my opinion, as it does have very good rooms and facilities at an affordable price. And you can find many other hotels in and around. So I would recommend to go for Hotel Seaview, if you can spend any amount, and go for Hotel Maadhini, if you want Luxury and comfort at an affordable price, and other hotels, if you want to settle for less price.

Places to Visit/Places/Events of Tourist Interest

I went through many sites to find out the places to visit. But finally after reaching there, I found out the following places/events interesting.

Sunrise and Sunset

A must see.Sunrise can be seen in Kanniyakumari through out the year at Bay of Bengal. Sunset can be seen near the Mandapam or View Tower through out the year except the months of June, July and August.Even though I visited in January 25th, 2009, due to cloudy weather sun-rise was not very prominent. But as I stayed two days, so I got a chance to see it next day.

Sunrise

Sunset

Thiruvalluvar Statue and Vivekananda Rock Memorial

Visting Hours -8 AM To 4 PM

This is the next sought after place. You have to go through the ferry, the ticket of which should be bought after(no advance booking) entry to the place from where ferry operates and is very nearby and at a walkable distance. But normally in weekends there will be many people(as many school children visit from nearing places along with tourists). The ticket counter opens at 7.45 a.m.. So it is better to be ready by this time and be present at the Counter. A delay of half an hour may cost you another hour or two, standing under the sun which is tough. So just plan half a day to see these two places.

Vivekananda Rock Memorial

Thiruvalluvar Statue

Mahatma Gandhi Memorial

will take maximum 20 mins to see and is present nearby.
Visting Hours -7 AM To 7 PM

Suchindrum Temple

It is about 12-13 km from Kanyakumari and you can visit this place to see the temple, which I found to be good one. While entering the temple, males can not wear any shirts or T-shirts, and I found this for the first time and also interesting.

Vattakottai (Circular Fort)

Located six km from Kanyakumari. You can visit along with Suchindrum Temple on the way. A circular fort of 18th century maintained by ASI from where you can have good view of sea. Also can go the beach and bathe. But as there are no security so if with family, then need to be cautious.

How many days to spend at Kanyakumari ?

Ideally one day is enough to see all the above place. But you should reach there by night, so that next day morning you can view the sunrise. Then get yourself ready as fast as possible to be ready at the ferry services by 7.45 am to see Thiruvalluvar Statue and Vivekananda Rock Memorial ,so that you will not spend much time standing in the queue(Half an hour delay will cost you 2 hrs standing in the queue, especially in weekends and that will affect your visit to other places,if you are there for one day only). And after coming from there, you can have a look at other places and come back by the evening to see the sunset.

If you plan 2 days, then you can plan in comfort for the above places and as well visit some other places or spend some time near the seashore which is quite relaxing.

BAY WATCH (Water Theme Amusement Park), Kanyakumari

If you don't have anyone interested for water/other activities(mostly kids) then you can just visit to see the Wax musuem or even skip this place.
